Speech Pathology Week - Communicating with Confidence

It is Speech Pathology Week (23-29 August) and the 2020 theme is Communicating with Confidence!
There are 1.2 million Australians with communication disability. Speech pathologists like Brittany Vogels, A/Senior Speech Pathologist at SCGH, work with these Australians to provide them with the confidence to communicate.
“In Australia today, communication disability remains largely invisible. Unseen and out-of-sight,” Brittany said.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the challenges faced by Australians with communication disability.
In a recent article in the Guardian titled ‘We give patient’s their voices back,’ (external site) the vital and often overlooked and misunderstood role of the speech pathologist was recognised.
At SCGH and OPH we strive to minimise the impact of communication disorders on people’s lives. Telehealth has been central to our success in keeping people engaged in their therapy during this uncertain time.
