Adult Hospital in the Home (HITH)
The Adult HITH Service provides daily mental health care in the home of eligible consumers who would otherwise require admission to hospital and reside in the NMHS catchment area. A multidisciplinary team of mental health clinicians offer intensive mental health assessment, treatment and management in the consumers' home for up to 14 days. The intensity and type of care provided in an inpatient ward is provided, but with greater flexibility to meet the consumer's preferences and facilitate maintenance of supports and links within their community
HITH provides an alternative to an inpatient hospital admission (avoiding inpatient admission), which allows MHPHDS Mental Health to offer a more person-centred option to voluntary admission for mental health consumers in their homes.
HITH can also act as a step down from inpatient hospital admission to community care where the intensity and type of care provided in an admitted service is offered but allows for greater flexibility to meet the consumer’s preferences and facilitates maintenance of supports and links within the community.
