North Metropolitan Health Service is extremely proud of its winners and finalists in the 2024 WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards. (WANMEA)

Congratulations to our winners, breast cancer nurse Tasmin Davis, and midwife Melissa Lynch, who both recognised for excellence in their fields.

Highly-respected Respiratory Nurse Practitioner Sue Morey was added to the Lifetime Achievement Honour Roll for her incredible contribution to respiratory medicine to the community.

North Metropolitan Health Service’s Nursing and Midwifery Services Director Annie Thompson said the commitment of our nurses and midwives to providing high-quality care to patients is exemplary.

“Tamsin and Melissa are wonderful role models and so pleased to have them on our team at NMHS,” she said.

“I am in awe of the dedication of Sue Morey for being inducted into the Lifetime Achievement Honour role.

“Sue’s contribution to NMHS and the broader community has been nothing short of remarkable.“

Tasmin Davis, McGrath Early Breast Cancer Nurse, was the winner of the Excellence in Registered Nursing award. Tasmin was acknowledged for passionately supporting patients at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital’s Breast Centre.

Widely respected by her colleagues and peers, Tasmin is an exemplary role model and emerging leader. Tasmin was recognised for being courageous, eager to learn, self-aware and passionate in driving best possible outcomes for patients.

Melissa Lynch was named the winner of the 2024 Excellence in Aboriginal Health award. A proud Noongar woman, Melissa is a member of the Aboriginal Midwifery Group practice at King Edward Memorial Hospital. Through this role Melissa provides antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to Aboriginal women and families.

Melissa was acknowledged for being enthusiastic about the provision of culturally safe maternity care for women and their families. Her humility, empathy and vulnerability allow her to connect with patients in an authentic and respectful way.

Sue Morey, Respiratory Nurse Practitioner at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, was added to the Lifetime Achievement Honour Roll. She was recognised for her uncompromising contribution and tireless commitment to improving the care provided to patients suffering from cystic fibrosis, mesothelioma and asthma, along with other chronic illnesses.

Sue is an exceptional nursing leader who has been an ardent advocate for respiratory health research. The winner of a long list of awards across her amazing career.

The prestigious WANMEA are designed to be a celebration of Western Australia’s nurses and midwives and showcase the critical role they provide to the community and WA health system.

Annie said I’m so proud of all our nurses and midwives but to be recognised and acknowledged for passion and expertise amongst their peers is exceptional.

“I would also like to congratulate and thank all our WANMEA finalists,” she said.
