Congratulations to Healing Gardens winner Yolanda

Over the past 13 weeks, students from The University of Western Australia have brought creativity and care to the forefront, designing courtyard gardens that promote healing, wellbeing, and climate resilience at Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park Hospitals.
After an inspiring showcase and more than 520 votes from staff, patients, and visitors, a winner has been announced for the inaugural Healing Gardens – Sustainable Green Scaping Competition.
Congratulations to Yolanda Trigger, whose design “A Home (Away from Home)” for the Ward 3 courtyard garden at Osborne Park Hospital captured hearts and imaginations, earning both the People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice awards.
Yolanda stated that she has a rather personal connection to the space, having been born at Osborne Park Hospital. Her uncle was also patient of the ward over several months.
"I wanted to create a space that offered a place for those who may be going through similar situations as my uncle and his family, to be able to feel respite and a sense of home during recovery, even if just for a few minutes," she said.
Yolanda’s thoughtful concept aims to transform the courtyard into a welcoming, restorative space which offers comfort, connection, and a touch of nature for all who visit.
Her winning design will now move into the construction design phase, with works set to begin in the first half of 2026.
The garden is designed to help create a greener and more climate-resilient hospital environment, supporting our organisation's strategic objective of building a sustainable future.
