Subiaco Community Mental Health partners with Lords gym
Our Subiaco Community Mental Health Service has partnered with Lords Recreation Centre to encourage physical activity and promote the benefits of exercise in patient care.
The partnership enables Subiaco Community Mental Health Service consumers and carers to build healthy routines in a supportive environment, remove barriers to exercise and reduce isolation.
Co-Director of Community Adult Mental Health David Bruce said the partnership with the City of Subiaco, which manages the popular Lords precinct, will provide the opportunity for our consumers and their carers to access fitness opportunities in a safe environment.
“This partnership reflects a shared commitment to community‑based, preventative mental health care,” David said.
“Regular exercise is widely acknowledged as an important component in managing mental health, supporting recovery, and enhancing quality of life,” he said.
“Carers play an invaluable role in supporting individuals accessing mental health services and often experience their own emotional strain.
“Providing them with opportunities to engage in physical activity like this is not just a reward but will enhance their own wellbeing."
City of Subiaco Mayor David McMullen said physical activity plays a key role in improving mental health, and our Lords team are passionate about empowering people to exercise in a safe and supportive environment.
“This partnership shows us what great things can happen when local services work together to support accessibility, connection and wellbeing,” he said.
Research from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Department of Health show regular exercise can lift mood, reduce stress and anxiety, strengthen resilience, and improve self‑esteem.
It also supports brain health by enhancing memory, concentration, and emotional regulation. Importantly, exercise provides a positive, structured activity that supports recovery, social connection, and a sense of belonging.
