About us
DonateLife Western Australia (WA), in collaboration with the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority (OTA), delivers the national organ and tissue program to save lives, restore health and improve the quality of life of Australians through organ and tissue donation.
In partnership with the OTA, DonateLife WA leads community education and engagement activities across the state, encouraging all Australians to make an informed decision about organ and tissue donation, to discuss their wishes with family, and to formally record their decision on the Australian Organ Donor Register (AODR).
DonateLife WA works within public and private health services in metropolitan Perth to ensure that organ and tissue donation is accessible as part of high-quality end-of-life care. This work includes coordination with police and coronial services to ensure every potential opportunity for donation is identified and considered appropriately. DonateLife WA also provides professional advisory service and receives infrequent referrals for donation from regional hospitals.
Donation specialist staff are available 24 hours, 7 days per week to:
- Manage referrals for organ and tissue donation.
- Provide individuals and families with information and support during donation discussions.
- Work with donation and transplantation clinicians, hospital teams, and eye and tissue banks to facilitate retrieval and transplantation processes.
DonateLife WA staff work collaboratively with hospital-based colleagues to implement clinical best practice in organ and tissue donation, delivering education and training to health professionals while also helping to foster community awareness within hospital environments.
As part of the National DonateLife Family Support Service, DonateLife WA provides compassionate assistance to families of organ and tissue donors before, during, and after the donation process.
