Strategy and Transformation at NMHS 20 October 2023 The recently established Strategy and Transformation (S&T) Directorate at North Metropolitan Health Service brings together five important core business units to guide our strategic direction and support services and staff, including: Strategy, Clinical Planning, Innovation and Development, Aboriginal Health and the Hospital Emergency Access Response Team (HEART). Responsible for driving transformation, the S&T Directorate will ensure we continually and proactively evolve within the ever-changing health care landscape. Congratulations WA Mental Health Awards finalist Ronnie Deng 17 October 2023 The finalists for this year's WA Mental Health Awards have been announced, recognising Ronnie Deng in the category Lived Experience Impact and Inspiration Award. He was nominated by advocacy group Mental Health Matters 2 for his local and national contributions as a carer, mentor and voice helping the community understand and navigate the mental health care system. Ronnie immigrated from Singapore in 1976 and has been involved with mental health for more than 30 years. He has worked on a casual basis with the North Metropolitan Health Service, specifically Graylands Hospital since 2016 as carer representative and Lived Experience Consultant. Ronnie became involved after his wife was admitted to Graylands Hospital and he struggled to understand what was happening and how he could help. Volunteers required for the Emergency Department 11 October 2023 Do you know someone interested in emergency health care and looking to gain exposure within a dynamic hospital environment? We are looking for volunteers to play a key role in assisting patients and families or carers within the Emergency Department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Volunteers will direct patients to the triage area and act as the key facilitator between families or carers and triage staff. They will provide general support within the Emergency Department and provide patient updates to waiting family members or carers. Volunteers will liaise with nursing and administrative staff to escort families or carers to the correct patient once triaging is complete. Congratulations to our WA Nursing and Midwifery Awards (WANMEA) winners 09 October 2023 We're extremely proud to announce our 2023 WA Nursing and Midwifery Awards (WANMEA) winners: Sandra Vinciguerra, Jodie Atkinson and Dr Zoe Bradfield. Sandra Vinciguerra was the winner of the highly prestigious Nurse of the Year award as well as the Excellence in Primary, Public and Community Care award. Sandra's outstanding work as part of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program at North Metropolitan Health Service contributed significantly to the WA health system's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sandra has broken down barriers to vaccination ensuring her clients are informed of the risks and benefits and delivers the vaccine in a safe and non-threatening environment. She provided more than 600 vaccinations, from the local park to remote areas across WA to support the community. Fitzroy Dental Service a labour of love 02 October 2023 Ian and Claudette Davison moved to the remote Kimberley region 11 years ago to run the Fitzroy Crossing Government Dental Clinic after immigrating to Australia the year before – and have not looked back. The husband and wife team has since devoted their lives to improving dental health within the local community and surrounding region, travelling to remote areas to provide dental services. Earlier this year Ian was recognised by the 2023 Community Citizen of the Year Awards receiving a Certificate of Appreciation. Ian said he was shocked and humbled to receive the award. "I had no idea I had been nominated. It was such a surprise when I was presented with the certificate at the dental clinic," Ian said.
