Electronic Prescriptions

Electronic Prescriptions

Electronic prescriptions are currently being implemented across the North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS).

Reducing the need for physical paper prescriptions, the electronic version enable the prescribing and dispensing of medicines via SMS or email.

The e-prescription can then be filled at their local pharmacy.

Please note, our hospital pharmacies are not presently able to receive electronic prescriptions. Patients must still be provided with normal paper prescriptions for them to be dispensed at NMHS Hospital Pharmacies.

Patients can also speak to their local community pharmacist about registering for an Active Script List (ASL) which allows their scripts to be stored in a central electronic database.

This enables any participating pharmacy that a patient gives permission to access their prescriptions without needing a QR code. To find out more please refer to the Australian Digital Health Agency website (external site).
