After attending our Osborne Park Hospital Pod...

  • PRIDE 2021 team
Proud to be part of PRIDE in 2021 30 November 2021 Saturday was an opportune time for us to demonstrate our commitment to diversity and inclusion as more than 50 of our staff participated in the first ever NMHS Pride Parade Float as part of the annual PRIDE parade in the city. This year the theme was R.E.S.P.E.C.T and the NMHS contingent walked as queer, trans, intersex and ally healthcare professionals, encouraging all communities to respect and love themselves. “It was great to see and be part of such an inclusive family event that was supported by not only NMHS, but all other HSPs,” said Jodi Graham, Executive Director, Women and Newborns Health Service & Pride participant. “I’m proud to be part of a health service that is committed to supporting a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture that values the diversity of our people and patients.” For the Pride Parade organising committee, it meant ...
  • B&P ED Jordan Kelly, with Michelle Osler and HESTA's Ben Brackley
Celebrating our dedicated staff! 10 November 2021 Congratulations to Michelle Osler who was today named as our North Metro Corporate Employee of the Quarter. Private Patient Liaison Officer in the Finance TeamPrivate Patient Liaison Officer in the Finance Team, based at OPH. Michelle was nominated for this award by Justine Huggins, a midwife Manager at WNHS and it is especially fantastic to be acknowledged outside of the Division. Justine noticed that Michelle saw some cracks in the system for patients who were ineligible for Medicare and worked with the team to find solutions. These women were being disadvantaged financially for some outpatient services such as lactation consultancy, so Michelle gave them private external health care provider details, so they had options to choose from. It means they could plan their postnatal care after their hospital discharge with significantly less out of pocket charges than the public system. Thi...
  • NMHS Family and Domestic Violence Framework launched
NMHS Family and Domestic Violence Framework launched 09 November 2021 We are very pleased to have launched the inaugural North Metropolitan Health Service Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) Framework. One of five West Australian women has reported experiencing partner violence since the age of 15 and nationally one in four Australian women have experienced violence by an intimate partner. Together across NMHS this framework will provide strategic direction and leadership for all our NMHS services and guide us to improve the safety of families experiencing FDV. A big thank you to Hon. Simone McGurk, MLA, Minister for Child Protection; Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence; Community Services for attending the official launch, and to Alison Gibson for your insight into families living with FDV and work being done in this space. The Framework was co-designed and jointly developed by Women’s Health Strategy and Programs (WHSP), in partnership with...
  • OPH midwife Niccola
Midwife Niccola's career high 01 November 2021 When WNHS at OPH midwife Niccola recently provided wonderful continuity of care to a mum at Osborne Park Hospital she did so not realising that it would be the highlight of her career! Mum Rishu was comfortable in her OPH surroundings. She attended OPH for her antenatal care and Niccola had met and cared for the family five or six times in the lead up to the birth. “I’d have worked another shift just to be here when those twins were born,” she said. Thankfully this story went as planned with labour progressing smoothly and full support provided by both midwifery and medical colleagues, Rishu’s twin delivery was calm and beautiful. “This was so special to me both personally and professionally as it was my first vaginal twin birth ever (in 21 years of midwifery) and with a patient I had created such a beautiful relationship with.” Congratulations to N...
